Steve Woodward
Steve first started training Wing
Chun in 1983, attaining instructor qualification several years later. He then
opened his own class in Cheltenham. In 1993 he attended a seminar at the
Midlands Wing Chun Kuen given by Master Ip Chun. This encounter impressed him
greatly and confirmed that his previous instruction had lacked depth and
understanding. This prompted him, along with his kung fu brother David
Akroyd-Jones, to approach Sifu Rawcliffe and ask to be accepted into the
Midlands Wing Chun Kuen as students.
After 18 months of intensive
private and class training, Steve was invited to teach for the Midlands Wing
Chun Kuen which brought the Cheltenham classes and students under the watchful
eye of Sifu Rawcliffe's large family-like association. Steve has accompanied
Sifu Rawcliffe to Hong Kong several times to train, in 1999 was part of the
demonstration team at the 1st World Ving Tsun Conference in Hong Kong and
represented the MWCK at the 2nd World Conference in Hong Kong in November 2005.
Steve regularly assists Sifu Rawcliffe at demonstrations and seminars around
the UK, Italy and in Hong Kong.
Steve is a level 2 coach through
the BCCMA, he holds an instructors certificate from the Ving Tsun
AthleticAssociation (Hong Kong); is a member of the Yip Man Martial Arts
Association (Hong Kong); a member of and certified instructor with the Wing
Chun Ip Chun Academy in Hong Kong and is a registered coach with the National
Coaching Foundation (Sports Coach UK). |

Scott Buckler
Scott started along his martial
arts journey in 1981, studying Bujinkai Karate under Sensei Dave Ritchie in
Exmouth. For the next ten years, Scott trained regularly however due to the
increased element of competition entering the style, he trained concurrently in
Shotokan and Aikido.
In 1991, Scott moved to Cheltenham
to study as a PE teacher, which resulted in a new search for a traditional
martial art. Unable to find an art that suited him, he opened his own club for
fellow students, after qualifying as an instructor in Jiu-Jitsu under the World
Combat Federation. During this time, Scott also trained and taught with
Kyokushinkai instructor Shuji Tohyama.
After a chance encounter with Sifu
David Akroyd-Jones he started training with Cheltenham Wing Chun Kuen in May
1995. In November 2005 Scott joined Sifu Woodward and Sifu Akroyd-Jones as part
of the MWCK representatives at the 2nd World Wing Chun Conference in Hong
Kong.
Scott has qualified as a Level 2
Coach under the BCCMA and is proud that he can contribute towards the
development of the Midlands Wing Chun Kuen. Scott is a senior university
lecturer in education and is working towards a PhD researching the development

Kevin Carr
Kevin started training in Wing
Chun during 1992 after moving to Cheltenham with work. Having had an interest
in Martial Arts for some time he started to look around for local schools
regardless of style. By luck the first school he tried was run by Sifu
Akroyd-Jones and Sifu Woodward.
Highlights of training in Wing
Chun have included accompanying Sifu Rawcliffe on one of his regular training
trips to Hong Kong with Master Ip Chun and being part of the demonstration team
for Combat 95.
Kevin recently achieved a level of
Wing Chun that enables him to teach unaccompanied. As a result of this he is
now able to offer private, 1 to 1, sessions in this devastating style around
